Walking Through Lisbon’s Tropical Botanical Garden in Belém

The tropical botanical garden caught my eye as I was scanning over Belém locations on GoogleMaps. After my morning pastry class, I headed over to the garden. It was 5€ to enter.

The garden was an assortment of walking paths. The most surprising thing about the garden was the local inhabitants. It was filled with birds, most of them were peacocks. I have never seen so many peacocks before in my life. They were indifferent to the people around and the ones that even noticed we were there looked like they felt at ease with those who were walking on the paths. I saw one that spread its large and colorful feathers, but otherwise they were all pretty calm and just strolled along within the garden.

My plant highlights in this garden were the large and mature monstera deliciosa throughout the area. Most of the monstera I looked at had multiple fruit growing from them. Had any of them been ripe, I would have been tempted.

Overall, the garden was a nice stop and a good walk for the day, but it wasn’t a full day activity. I wish the greenhouses had been open as that is usually my favorite part of visiting botanical gardens. Their gift shop was not open, but that would have been an interesting addition to the day.
