Walking the Walls of Dubrovnik, Croatia

One of the things I was looking forward to in Dubrovnik was walking the city walls.

It was suggested by my Game of Thrones tour guide that I should start with the hardest uphill part at the entrance near the port, so I started there and headed to the highest point on the wall first. There are just over a thousand steps on the city wall stairs.

There are a handful of places to stop for a break on the walls. Some are good viewpoints and some have drinks or souvenirs to buy. I stopped by a cafe overlooking the water. They served beverages off a small menu: juices, waters, coffee. There was also a small souvenir shop with local art. I stopped for a pear juice.

The best part about the walk is the views. This way my favorite way to see Dubrovnik’s Old City.

I found the walls to be crowded at parts and I can imagine this would be exacerbated during the high tourist months. If I were to take this climb again, I would do it as early as the wall opens to try to avoid congestion at some of the best viewpoints.
